Frank Teruel Breaks Down the Rise of Counterfeit Prescription Drug Scams

KTNV Las Vegas reporter Shakeria Hawkins interviewed Arkose Labs COO Frank Teruel for a consumer protection segment on counterfeit prescription drug scams. Teruel explained that roughly 90% of online pharmacy websites are illegal according to the National Board of Pharmacy, with many using social media platforms like TikTok to run fake ads. He warned consumers that medications from these sites can be improperly made, contaminated, or mislabeled — and that sites not requiring a prescription are a major red flag. Teruel also noted that beyond the health risks, these scams can expose consumers’ personal data to theft.
