KTNV Las Vegas reporter Shakeria Hawkins interviewed Arkose Labs COO Frank Teruel on “Ghost Tapping,” a scam targeting consumers who use tap-to-pay and digital wallets. Teruel explained that scammers use portable wireless card readers to trigger small unauthorized transactions — typically between $1 and $5 — simply by getting close enough to a victim in a crowd. He described how scammers can also trick consumers into tapping on fake kiosks or donation devices to capture payment information. Teruel recommends turning off tap-to-pay when not in use, enabling instant payment alerts and checking statements regularly for small unfamiliar charges.
