Personal AI Agents Don't Need Special Lanes

AI agents don't need an API to use your website.

Arkose Labs founder and CEO Kevin Gosschalk uses Waymo to explain how personal AI agents work. Like self-driving cars, they don't get special lanes. They share the same roads as people, using the same websites and apps, so they can work with any business overnight with no API or MCP required. Muse's launch put agents on any website, and unless a business sets a policy against them, they work by default.

The Waymo analogy for AI agents

I live in the Bay Area, San Francisco. We have, on the streets, Waymo driving around on the same streets that regular drivers are driving on, the same roads, same lanes.

And it was pretty clear that AI agents were probably going to follow a similar trend, where they were going to be driving on the same lanes that the human users are, interacting with websites, using apps natively. That way, they wouldn't have to depend on businesses creating APIs or MCPs purposefully for them.

Of course, for self-driving cars, we don't have special lanes for them. They just operate, and they have found ways to operate with the rest of us. Benefit of this is it means that overnight they can interact and use any product, any website, any app that exists, and that came true when Muse launched.

Muse and agents on any website

Really, I guess Instinct kinda launched a couple of weeks prior, but the first major one that's seen all the adoption is Muse, and that's exactly how it operates. It just uses the web like a regular person does, which means overnight it's got access to everything. If you don't have a specific policy about preventing these systems, by default they work.
