A Quarter of New Online Accounts Are Fake - Report

Arkose Labs recorded an 85% year-on-year increase in attacks targeting logins and account creation in 2021, according to the company's 2022 State of Fraud and Account Security report. Analyzing more than 150 billion transaction requests across 254 countries, the firm found that 1 in 4 newly created accounts were fake and 1 in 5 login attempts was an account takeover attempt. A fifth of all traffic — 21% — was confirmed as a fraudulent cyberattack.
