Stolen financial and fintech account credentials rank as the second most valuable on the dark web — behind only gaming accounts — with a well-positioned reseller able to net up to $24,000 from a single legitimate bank account, according to Arkose Labs' 'Economics of Account Takeover Attacks' report. VP of Architecture and Research David Senecal explains that as credentials grow more valuable, fraudsters invest more in building bots that automate attacks at scale, eating into margins only when defenders raise costs sufficiently. Senecal argues the report underscores why financial institutions must continuously upgrade their defenses to ensure the economics of attack remain unattractive.
