Kevin Gosschalk, CEO of Arkose Labs, told Fox Business that 2024 will be "the year of the AI-generated scam, at scale," as bad actors deploy bots to create massive volumes of fake accounts on dating apps and other platforms, then use AI to engage victims in authentic-seeming conversations. Gosschalk described a handoff model where AI chatbots warm up victims before handing them to human operators for the final financial ask. He said the combination of scale and conversational quality is making AI-powered romance and phishing scams increasingly difficult to detect.
