Online gaming traffic rose 30% in Q2 2020 compared to Q1, and attempts to hack players' accounts and steal digital goods rose with it, according to Arkose Labs CEO Kevin Gosschalk. The Wall Street Journal featured Gosschalk's data as part of an investigation into the surge in gaming fraud during pandemic-era lockdowns, including account takeovers that stripped players of purchased games, in-game currency and digital items. Gosschalk noted that the quarantine-driven spike in gaming — especially among children — created a rich new pool of targets for fraudsters.
