Arkose Labs research found 4 million online dating fraud and abuse-related attacks were recorded in 2020, many through fake account registrations, as Interpol issued a Purple Notice to 194 member countries warning of a global romance investment scam targeting dating app users. Interpol's notice cited the spike in dating app usage during COVID-19 lockdowns as a key factor enabling the fraud to proliferate.
