Barron's explains the Storm-1152 cybercrime syndicate, which Microsoft seized websites from after the group created millions of fake Outlook and Hotmail accounts for sale to criminal groups worldwide. Arkose Labs, the cybersecurity firm that worked alongside Microsoft to combat Storm-1152, tracked the group to Vietnam and identified its 3 leaders — Duong Dinh Tu, Linh Van Nguyen and Tai Van Nguyen. Microsoft said Storm-1152, first detected in 2021, developed sophisticated tools specifically designed to defeat its security features and create fraudulent accounts in bulk.
